“Nona Hengen was born and grew up in the Palouse country of
eastern Her deep attachment to the land and to country life, coupled with her fine powers of observation, find expression in genuine recreations infused with the life, the strength, the vigor, the loneliness, and the vastness of life in the country.”Dr. W. Robert Lawyer, Director of Libraries at Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA
Nona Hengen’s first art teacher, Vesta Robbins, told her that if she was to one day succeed as an artist, she must “plow her own field.” This advice, to paint that which one knows and loves best, has guided Nona’s art career from the beginning. And this art career has blossomed into many outreaches for Nona as listed below.
